Plaza de Espa\u00f1a de Santo Domingo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Se trata de la <strong>plaza mayor de la ciudad<\/strong> ubicada detr\u00e1s de la catedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La plaza se crea con la construcci\u00f3n de las murallas del <strong>siglo&nbsp;XIV<\/strong> siendo durante siglos el emplazamiento del mercado y de la plaza de toros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El empedrado es de finales del siglo&nbsp;XX. En ella, se encuentran algunso de los edificios m\u00e1s importantes del municipio como el <strong>Ayuntamiento,<\/strong> el edificio del <strong>Corregimiento de Rioja<\/strong> construido en 1763, en cuya parte inferior se encontraba la C\u00e1rcel Real, y el edificio de la <strong>Alh\u00f3ndiga<\/strong>, antiguo lugar de venta y almacenamiento de cereal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.2. La <strong>fuente<\/strong> fue mandada construir en 1799 para abastecimiento de la poblaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las <strong>encinas<\/strong> que pueblan la plaza recuerdan el antiguo bosque que se extend\u00eda por todo el t\u00e9rmino municipal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una <strong>hoz cortando una encina,<\/strong> constituye uno de los s\u00edmbolos del escudo de la ciudad.<\/p>\n\n\n<div En \u00e9l se exponen valiosas obras de arte como tr\u00edpticos flamencos, orfebrer\u00eda e importantes piezas escult\u00f3ricas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>Torre de la Catedral<\/strong> se encuentra exenta al edificio y fue levantada entre <strong>1767 y 1769.<\/strong> Es una magna obra barroca de <strong>sesenta y nueve<\/strong> metros, siendo <strong>la torre m\u00e1s alta de La Rioja<\/strong> visible desde muchos kil\u00f3metros a la redonda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.2. Siendo un bello ejemplo de escultura romanista. Enfrente se levanta el <strong>retablo mayor<\/strong> ambos realizados a principios del siglo XVII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En la actualidad, una parte del edificio se destina a <strong>Taller Diocesano de restauraci\u00f3n<\/strong> de obras de arte, otra parte a <strong>Parador de Turismo<\/strong> y una tercera parte a <strong>Hospital y Asilo de ancianos<\/strong> \u201cHospital del Santo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.3. Abad\u00eda Cisterciense de Santo Domingo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"665\" src=\"https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378-1024x665.jpg\" alt=\"Abadia Cisterciense\" class=\"wp-image-8634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378-1024x665.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378-768x499.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00378.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Las <strong>monjas Cistercienses<\/strong> habitan ininterrumpidamente esta abad\u00eda desde el a\u00f1o 1621.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se trata de un <strong>edificio clasicista<\/strong> con Iglesia en forma de cruz latina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sobre un <strong>pedestal de m\u00e1rmol negro<\/strong> reposa un ancho <strong>sepulcro de alabastro<\/strong> con tres estatuas yacentes: el fundador y sus dos sobrinos, esculpidas hacia el a\u00f1o 1620.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El <strong>retablo mayor<\/strong>, con un estilo barroco, de mediados del siglo XVIII, de madera policromada y dorada. En la hornacina central se sit\u00faa la imagen de Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Anunciaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El coro bajo situado a los pies de la iglesia ha servido de <strong>cementerio<\/strong> hasta 1960, donde yacen m\u00e1s de 200 monjas. Anexo a la iglesia est\u00e1 el <strong>claustro del siglo XVII<\/strong> el cual destaca por su austeridad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Abad\u00eda <strong>estuvo al borde de la desaparici\u00f3n,<\/strong> sin embargo, gracias al tes\u00f3n y entereza de la madre abadesa en el a\u00f1o 1964 se inaugur\u00f3 el Hostal sirviendo como <strong>\u00fanica fuente de ingresos<\/strong> con la que se mantiene la congregaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.4. En la actualidad es la <strong>Casa Municipal de Cultura<\/strong>, albergando la Biblioteca y la Oficina de Informaci\u00f3n y Turismo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.6. La Muralla de Santo Domingo de la Calzada<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lariojapremium.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/dsc00373.jpg\"><img luchas fratricidas con su hermanastro&nbsp;Enrique II de Trast\u00e1mara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta monumental construcci\u00f3n en piedra de siller\u00eda, ten\u00eda una <strong>longitud de 1670 metros,<\/strong> con un espesor de dos metros y medio, <strong>38 torreones<\/strong> de 12 metros de altura y <strong>7 puertas<\/strong> animadas con el escudo real y de la ciudad.<\/p>\n\n\n<div La tradici\u00f3n cuenta que fue <strong>construida sobre el antiguo y humilde oratorio<\/strong> que hiciera Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.2. Ermita del Puente<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Se trata de un <strong>peque\u00f1o edificio<\/strong> por el que pasan todos <strong>los peregrinos al abandonar Santo Domingo<\/strong> antes de cruzar el puente. Edificada en siller\u00eda y ladrillo, se cubre a dos aguas y se remata con una peque\u00f1a espada\u00f1a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta ermita se construy\u00f3 en el <strong>a\u00f1o 1917<\/strong> cerca existi\u00f3 otra ermita que fue arrastrada por las aguas en la crecida el a\u00f1o 1906.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.3. Ermita de la Virgen de las Abejas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Situada <strong>a 2 kil\u00f3metros en direcci\u00f3n oeste.<\/strong> El actual edificio fue <strong>reconstruido en 1764 despu\u00e9s de sufrir un incendio<\/strong> que destruy\u00f3 la cubierta, las im\u00e1genes y las puertas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El <strong>Martes de Pentecost\u00e9s,<\/strong> la cofrad\u00eda de&nbsp;San Isidro&nbsp;y el Patronato del \u201cHospital del Santo\u201d acuden all\u00ed de Romer\u00eda. Al domingo siguiente la Cofrad\u00eda del Santo acompa\u00f1ada de cientos de Calceatenses participar\u00e1n en la <strong>misa y la procesi\u00f3n,<\/strong> y degustar\u00e1n la comida t\u00edpica de ese d\u00eda: cocido de lentejas con oreja de lech\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.3. Ermita de la Mesa del Santo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Situada <strong>a 1 kil\u00f3metro en direcci\u00f3n Haro.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada <strong>13 de octubre<\/strong> se celebra all\u00ed una romer\u00eda que comienza con una misa y procesi\u00f3n y contin\u00faa con una comida de todo el Patronato de la ermita y acaba con una verbena.<\/p>\n\n\n<div Mercado Medieval y otras fiestas de Santo Domingo de la Calzada<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Santo Domingo es un pueblo con varias fechas se\u00f1aladas en el calendario a lo largo del a\u00f1o, sin embargo hay 3 de ellas que cuenta con especial popularidad y tradici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.1. Fiestas del Santo en mayo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde el <strong>25 de abril<\/strong> cuando \u201cSale la gaita y el tamboril\u201d y pasando por el <strong>1 de mayo<\/strong> cuando tienen lugar las vueltas del Santo son el preludio de lo que est\u00e1 por llegar, las fiestas de mayo que <strong>comienzan el d\u00eda 10 y duran hasta el 15 d\u00eda de San Isidro.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El <strong>10 de mayo<\/strong> se lee el preg\u00f3n y dan comienzo las fiestas m\u00e1s apreciadas por los Calceatenses, siendo <strong>el d\u00eda 11 cuando tiene lugar la conocida como procesi\u00f3n de las doncellas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los actos siguen hasta <strong>el d\u00eda 15<\/strong> donde tiene lugar la procesi\u00f3n de San Isidro Labrador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.2. Fiestas de Gracias y San Jer\u00f3nimo Hermosilla en septiembre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En torno al 18 de septiembre se celebran estas fiestas con procesiones, degustaciones y ambiente festivo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.3. Feria de la Concepcion: \u00c9poca Medieval y Mercado del Camino<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante el puente de diciembre se celebra la Feria Medieval en Santo Domingo de la Calzada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Con mercado del Camino<\/strong> donde se venden productos alimenticios relacionados con el Camino de Santiago.&nbsp;Y <strong>mercado Medieval<\/strong> trasladando la ciudad a la edad media con banderas y cintas de colores, decoraci\u00f3n de la \u00e9poca, cantos de juglares y sonidos de dulzainas. Los mercaderes y artesanos llegan de todos los rincones para celebrar el mercado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estos d\u00edas tambi\u00e9n encontramos la&nbsp;<strong>feria de productos ecol\u00f3gicos, as\u00ed Garc\u00eda<\/strong> y <strong>naci\u00f3 en el 1019 en la localidad de Viloria de Rioja<\/strong> pr\u00f3xima a Santo Domingo de la Calzada donde <strong>muri\u00f3 en 1109.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tras ser rechazado en los Monasterios de Valvanera y San Mill\u00e1n <strong>se retir\u00f3 como eremita<\/strong> a los bosques de Ayuela donde llev\u00f3 una vida contemplativa hasta 1039.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A partir de ese a\u00f1o el Obispo de Ostia, Gregorio, lo orden\u00f3 como sacerdote y <strong>construyeron un puente de madera<\/strong> que ayudase a los peregrinos a cruzar el rio Oja en su camino a Compostela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tras morir Gregorio, volvi\u00f3 a la zona de Ayuela. Tal\u00f3 bosques y <strong>comenz\u00f3 la construcci\u00f3n de una calzada de piedra<\/strong> que supuso una desviaci\u00f3n del camino tradicional por la&nbsp;calzada romana&nbsp;entre&nbsp;Logro\u00f1o&nbsp;y&nbsp;Burgos, pero que se convirti\u00f3, a partir de entonces, en la ruta principal entre&nbsp;N\u00e1jera&nbsp;y&nbsp;Redecilla del Camino. <strong>Por esta labor es conocido como&nbsp;<em>Domingo de la calzada<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sustituy\u00f3 el puente de madera que hab\u00eda construido con Gregorio por uno de piedra, y <strong>construy\u00f3 un complejo integrado por hospital, pozo e iglesia,<\/strong> para atender a las necesidades de los peregrinos, donde en la actualidad se encuentra la&nbsp;<em>Casa del Santo<\/em>, utilizada como albergue de peregrinos. Siendo <strong>uno de los mayores impulsores del Camino de Santiago.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada verano se lleva a cabo la <strong>representaci\u00f3n teatral<\/strong> \u00abLos Milagros del Santo\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">El Milagro del Gallo y la gallina<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En el siglo&nbsp;XIV peregrinan a Compostela <strong>un joven alem\u00e1n de 18 a\u00f1os llamado Hugonel<\/strong> junto a sus padres. En el mes\u00f3n donde se hospedan trabaja una muchacha joven que se enamora de \u00e9l siendo rechazada por el joven alem\u00e1n. Despechada la muchacha guarda en el zurr\u00f3n del joven una copa de plata y <strong>le acusa de robo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El joven Hugonell y sus padres se disponen a partir para seguir el peregrinaje, cuando llega la justicia y comprueban la acusaci\u00f3n registrando el zurr\u00f3n del muchacho. Es <strong>condenado a la horca.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los padres no pueden hacer nada por \u00e9l m\u00e1s que rezar a Santiago. Al acercarse al cuerpo ahorcado de su hijo para despedirse oyen c\u00f3mo <strong>este les habla desde la horca<\/strong> y les dice que est\u00e1 vivo por la gracia de Santo Domingo de la Calzada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Llenos de dicha <strong>van a comunicar la noticia al corregidor<\/strong> que justo en ese momento se sentaba a la mesa. El corregidor naturalmente se burla de lo que oye y lanza la frase conocida:&nbsp;<em><strong>\u201cVuestro hijo est\u00e1 tan vivo como este gallo y esta gallina que me dispon\u00eda a comer antes de que me importunarais\u201d<\/strong><\/em>. Y en ese momento, las aves saltan del plato y se ponen a cantar y cacarear alegremente.<\/p>\n\n\n<div
